In the United States, reputable schools offer something called a STEM curriculum. This acronym stands for Science Technology English and Mathematics. Electives such as art and physical education are also sprinkled in throughout education but these four are the main topics.
Perhaps one reason why these topics are so well accepted and studied is because they don’t leave a great deal of space for interpretation or nuance. They operate mostly on a strict set of rules which allow for tiny deviation but are mostly rigid.
Other schools, such as a military school in Virginia, offer the courses mentioned above plus self-discipline classes and military history lessons. Some military schools are co-educational while others are all male in nature.
Still yet, there are schools that base their teachings on theology, like a Baptist or Catholic school for example. They include science, technology and language lessons but also require students to learn the religion on which their school was founded. This kind of education is not subpar to others. In fact, many prefer it because they think it is superior.
Private schools and boarding schools are usually pretty expensive whereas public schools are paid for by tax revenue. Many people believe that private schools offer a better education because the parents are more involved and the teachers are as well. This, of course, is subjective.
Knowing which type of school to choose for your son or daughter really depends on what your beliefs are. Do you have religious beliefs? Are you former military? Do they have a natural inclination for technology or art? After long consideration you will be able to choose what type of school is right for your student.
